Walter Martin Cozies Under the Mistletoe in New Lyric Video

Walter Martin

With turkey leftovers disappearing and department stores blasting holiday classics, it’s definitely starting to look a lot like Christmas (and Festivus For the Rest Of Us). Joining in the yultide cheer is Walkmen alum Walter Martin, who offers a new take on the season’s most romantic hemiparasitic plant with his latest song, “I Walk So Slow (Under The Mistletoe).”

Enlisting the help of pixie pop songwriter Kat Edmonson, this follow-up to Martin’s lighthearted solo debut, We’re All Young Together, pulls out all of the seasonal stops using sleigh bells, xylophones, and playful hints of polka to brighten up the boy-meets-girl cocktail carol. The homespun video is a geometric frenzy of wooden cut-outs conducted by artist/director Juan Miguel Marin, who handmade all of the objects featured in the video to create this stop-motion moment.

While images of Mary Janes and candy canes fill this flirtatious song’s melodies, Martin told SPIN, “I love holiday music, and I tried to pump up all of its wonderful clichés: dreamy romance, choral singing, sleigh bells…etc. I want people to feel like they’re sitting on a gumdrop sofa inside a gingerbread house while it’s raining candy canes and eggnog.”
