Taking a late-night break from their current stretch of tour dates, tUnE-yArDs stopped by Conan last night to perform a rendition of Nikki Nack single “Water Fountain.” Led by a blue-haired Merrill Garbus, her worldbeat troupe broke loose with a looping series of handclaps, avid percussion, and tribal-sounding chants. Coincidentally, the track has also recently been given a frenetic, chopped-up remix by Lisbon’s DJ Marfox and and Rio de Janeiro’s Pearls Negras.
In other tUnE-yArDs news, the band has reportedly launched “The Water Fountain,” a charity referencing her SPIN end-of-year favorite, that works to support global water organizations.
