Michael Stipe Says He ‘Will Sing Again,’ Won’t Reunite R.E.M.

Michael Stipe REM CBS This Morning Interview

Since R.E.M. broke up back in 2011, lead singer Michael Stipe hasn’t been up to much musically, but in an interview with CBS This Morning, via Stereogum, he revealed that his reclusiveness won’t be permanent. When prodded about his plans for the future he said that he “will sing again,” but “not soon.” That said, when he returns it won’t be with his iconic band.

“I love those guys very much and I respect them hugely as musicians and as songwriters and everything,” he said. “But I just don’t want to do that thing that people do. I despise nostalgia.”

Even so, Stipe spent the rest of the five-minute segment looking back on his years in the band, in order to celebrate their new DVD box set of television appearances, REMTV. You can catch the whole interview up above.
