Stephen Colbert Bids Adieu to ‘Report’ With Jeff Tweedy, Michael Stipe and More

They sang Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again"

Well, it’s over. Stephen Colbert did the final episode of The Colbert Report last night, but rest assured, “We’ll Meet Again.” Ending the show with a sing-along of the Vera Lynn classic (likely best remembered today as the anthem of Dr. Strangelove’s apocalypse) Colbert welcomed a LOT of guests to join in. Among the famous faces, we spied R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, James Franco, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson, Randy Newman, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Barry Manilow, Bill Clinton, Katie Couric, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and so many others. Suffice it to say, this was emotional. Once the sing-along ended, Colbert took off with Santa and Alex Trebek, presumably to prep for hosting The Late Show.

Even more tear-jerking, the show’s final credits were set to Neutral Milk Hotel’s Colbert-approved “Holland, 1945.” ‘Scuse us, we have something in our eye.
