Here’s an 11-Year-Old Björk Reading the Nativity Story on Icelandic TV

Bjork, Child, Nativity, Iceland, TV, 11 years old, christmas

Here’s an early Christmas present for you: A video of Björk reading the story of the nativity on Icelandic TV when she was just 11 years old is making its way around the web, and it’s really quite marvelous. The 1976 special aired on the TV station RUV, and featured little Björk telling the story of the birth of Jesus while accompanied by students from the Reykjavík Children’s Music School. It’s all in Icelandic, so it’s probably incomprehensible to most of you, but you don’t need understand the words to get some joy out of seeing a big music star when they were just a kid.

Björk would release her self-titled debut a year after recording the special, and her more widely known Debut 16 years later, so this is a pretty fun and festive throwback. RUV recently rebroadcast the special, and you can watch it in its entirety here if you want to get in the holiday spirit.
