Prince and 3rdEyeGirl Ascend to ‘Marz,’ ‘Clouds’ During Extended ‘SNL’ Performance

The Purple One stopped the show for a full eight-minute jam

Considering how quickly most Prince live footage is wiped from the Internet by his crack team of lawyers, the good folks at 30 Rockefeller did us all a pretty solid favor by enlisting the Purple One for the most recent episode of the 40th season of Saturday Night Live. Though he hadn’t appeared on the famously mercurial stage since 2006, he and his most recent band, 3rdEyeGirl seemed pretty at home as they stopped the whole Chris Rock-hosted show for an eight-minute-plus jam. The band offered soaring takes on Art Official Age’s “Clouds” as well as “Marz” and a new track called “Another Love.”

Throughout the set Mr. Paisley Park was sure to keep his third eye covered with an omnipresent pair of modified sunglasses, and on the whole it was just a reminder that when Prince makes it to TV you need to pay attention. According to Pitchfork, it was also announced Saturday night that Prince’s friend Kendrick Lamar will return to SNL as a musical guest on November 15, but for now be sure to catch Prince’s set above.
