Lorde Flips the Dynamic on Spacey Cover of Jeremih’s ‘Don’t Tell ‘Em’

The New Zealander also did 'Yellow Flicker Beat' on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge

Shutting Diplo down via Twitter hasn’t been the only thing on Lorde’s schedule this week. Appearing on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge to promote the Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, Lorde performed two live tracks: the Kanye West version of “Yellow Flicker Beat” and a rendition of Jeremih’s 2014 top-ten hit “Don’t Tell ‘Em.”

Citing her reason for covering the Chicago-based R&B singer, Lorde said, “I have basically been a really big fan of this song since I first started hearing it around. I love the vocal melodies. I think they’re really smart, and I just consider them cool. It’s quite a saucy song, and I thought it would be interesting to flip the dynamic and make that power mine.” What follows is a smokey, trip-hoppy, totally sexy but powerful spin on “Don’t Tell ‘Em.”

Watch the cover above, check out “Yellow Flicker Beat” below, and don’t miss the Lorde-curated Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack when it drops on November 17.
