k.i.d. Wish They Could Be ‘Your Cigarette’ on Debut Single

K.I.D., premiere, I Wish I Was Your Cigarette, Song

In high school, Washington born singer Kara Lane struck up a friendship with Toronto native Bobby Lo, and the pair would cut out of class to smoke cigarettes. On the pair’s debut single as k.i.d., “I Wish I Was Your Cigarette,” Lane and Lo turn the ins and outs of a relationship into an extended metaphor about cravings and desires. While the band calls their track a piece of garage-pop, it also cuts a lane between the wailing screeches of Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss and Sky Ferreira’s scratchy, ceiling-gazing songwriting.

“Wish I was your cigarette / Wish I was your bubblegum / Really close to your tongue,” Lane sings smokily, packing each word with meaning. Stream k.i.d.‘s “I Wish I Was Your Cigarette” below and look for their cleverly crafted first EP early next year.
