Kendrick Lamar Brings Radical Self-Love and Creepy Contacts to ‘SNL’

Kendrick Lamar Saturday Night Live Woody Harrelson Video

Kendrick Lamar is continuing to tinker away at his third full-length studio album, but he took some time out of recording to swing by the 40th season of Saturday Night Live. Though he didn’t debut any brand new tracks, his performance was still something pretty special. Clad in some seriously creepy black contacts, K. Dot offered a spirited run-through of his self-love anthem “i,” replete with expansive backing vocals, Santana-esque lead guitar lines, and a horn section. For his second song of the night, he brought along fellow TDE affiliate Jay Rock for a performance of their recent team-up “Pay For It.” As if that wasn’t enough, the good kid, m.A.A.d city architect also made a cameo in a skit that spoofed Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s recent jazz standards album. You can watch “i” above and “Pay For It” and the skit below.
