Listen to This Dramatic Reading of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’
The rapper is really a poet, it turns out
In January of 2017, when a new president is inaugurated, it’s likely that a poet will read a special piece to commemorate the occasion. May we at SPIN humbly suggest that Nicki Minaj get the honor? Because, if this dramatic reading of her smash “Anaconda,” is anything to go by, she’s Shakespeare reborn.
Comedian Ian Martin read the song’s filthy lyrics slowly, emphatically, and against a backdrop of clouds and waves. The peaceful recital really lets you appreciate Minaj’s masterful verses, like “Dick bigger than a tower / I ain’t talking about Eiffel,” and “Oh my gosh, look at her butt / Oh my gosh, look at her butt / Oh my gosh, look at her butt / Look at her butt (look at her butt).” So deep. So peaceful. Compare Martin’s beautiful interpretation to the original masterpiece below.
