Sometimes the only way to properly handle your emotions is to satirize them with a music video featuring melodramatic closeups, red mood lighting, and Mick Jagger-esque dance moves. That’s the conclusion Foxygen have reached in their new “Coulda Been My Love” vid (above), directed by frequent Sky Ferreira collaborator Grant Singer.
“Coulda Been My Love” treats romance in the same obsessively weird way that Best Coast’s Crazy For You did back in 2010. The video overinflates the fallout from a breakup, with the psych-pop musicians cavorting around a massive mansion dressed in typical ’70s garb for no real reason but to match the band’s groovy sound.
“My Love” can be found on the band’s …And Star Power, the sprawling 82-minute follow-up to last year’s We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic, out today on Jagjagwuar.
