Dave Grohl Salutes His D.C. Roots in ‘Sonic Highways’ Interview With Bad Brains, Ian Mackaye

Foo Fighters Sonic Highways Bad Brains Ian Mackaye Interview Video

Friday night’s episode of Foo Fighters’ new HBO show Sonic Highways found Dave Grohl returning to a place very near and dear to his heart, Washington, D.C. He’s already paid homage to the nation’s capital this year by staging a surprise show at the 9:30 Club in tribute of the famed go-go band Trouble Funk, but he offered up an hour long love-letter to the big city that he called his own while growing up in suburban Virginia. The episode culminated in the completion of “The Feast and the Famine,” the second single from the band’s eighth studio album, but along the way Grohl managed to chat with a whole host of D.C. legends. Dischord Records boss/hardcore frontman extraordinare Ian Mackaye and D.C. punk icons Bad Brains made an appearance to talk about the rise of D.C. hardcore during Grohl’s formative years, and this morning HBO has offered up an extended cut of those two conversations. Watch that above while you bide your time until the next episode.
