BET Hip Hop Awards Winners List: DJ Mustard, Drake, Iggy Azalea, and More

BET Hip Hop Awards Winners List

At this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, DJ Mustard walked away with three of the night’s top trophies: DJ of the Year, MVP of the Year, and Producer of the Year. The only artist to win more honors was Drake, who took home four awards of his own, namely Album of the Year for 2013’s Nothing Was the Same, Best Hip-Hop Video and People’s Champ Award (both for the “Worst Behavior” clip), and Best Live Performer. Mustard also produced the song that was dubbed the Best Collab, Duo, or Group: YG’s “My Hitta,” so consider it a big night for the superstar born as Dijon.

Nicki Minaj’s sole prize was the Made You Look Award, given to entertainers who always kept fans wanting to see more on the red carpet. Iggy Azalea unsurprisingly took home the Who Blew Up Award, a victory lap for her massively successful year. Midway through the show, the I Am Hip Hop Award — awarded to the most influential stars of hip hop past and present — was bestowed upon human beatbox Doug E. Fresh. The MC later performed “Lodi Dodi” with the help of the night’s host, Snoop Dogg.

Though the winners list was allegedly leaked on BET’s website earlier today, the show had no shortage of surprises when it came to performances. Rap phenoms Rae Sremmurd kicked off the evening with a performance of their inescable earworm of a hit, “No Flex Zone.” Later in the night, hip-hop veteran Common and up-and-comer Vince Staples gave an incredibly of emotional performance of “Kingdom” — which also won Impact Track — backed by a gospel choir as Ferguson police shooting victim Michael Brown’s parents took the stage with hands raised in the air.
