After appearing on a remix of Disclosure’s “F For You” and showing up at a Sam Smith show, Mary J. Blige has apparently fostered a friendship with that crew of chart-busting British beatheads. Earlier this week, the Settle brothers tweeted that they were involved in producing some songs for the R&B great’s new album The London Sessions, which also features Smith’s songwriting and help from space-soul fellow traveler Emeli Sandé. Friday night, Blige shared the first taste of that collaboration.
Penned with Smith and his frequent collaborator Jimmy Napes and produced by Disclosure, “Right Now” relies on stripped synths and Blige’s typically boisterous vocal performance to craft the same sort of winning and infectious house that rocketed “Latch” to the top of the charts. Listen below as we await The London Sessions some time this fall.
