It’s no secret that Gary Clark Jr. is a force to be reckoned with in the live arena — whether playing an actual arena or a festival tent, the Austin-hailing axe-slinger and soul singer positively owns his audience. Look at him up there playing “Don’t Owe Me a Thang” in London’s sprawling Hyde Park. Backed by a tight little wrecking crew, he evokes the image of a steam engine via the chooga-chooga of his guitar even as his vocals slide cooly overtop, sounding impossibly level. The video is a welcome treat, yes, but there’s a bigger meal to be had. Last week, Warner Bros. released Gary Clark Jr. Live, a 15-song set whose unadorned title sells the thing just fine (pick it up via iTunes, or Clark’s store). No filler. No overdubs. No noodle.
