Now that “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” has cemented itself as Tame Impala’s most popular song — with an Arctic Monkeys cover and all — it only makes sense that other people are coming for a piece of the “Be Above It” band’s pie. According to a Chilean news organization, the “Backwards” melody was lifted directly from “Oceano,” a 1989 Argentinian track by one of the country’s most popular singers, Pablo Ruiz. Consequence of Sound points out that Impala’s lead singer, Kevin Parker, was only 3 when “Oceano” became popular, but the video above compares the two songs for you to judge for yourself.
