If this truly is the Summer of Ass, it’s Nicki Minaj’s crown to defend.
As if dropping a new solo video (“Anaconda”) and scoring the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours weren’t enough, Young Money MC now appears in Juicy J’s “Low” clip for another show-stopping, ass-quaking appearance. Juicy’s own segment is pretty rote: twerking girls in booty shorts (check.), gold chains (check.), expensive cars (check.), but when Minaj’s voice purrs “uh” atop that Dr. Luke beat, things start picking up and dropping down.
It’s pretty incredible how commanding a presence the rapper has become in the past few years, taking center stage with every appearance no matter if it’s a solo cut or a feature like this. Lil Bibby shows up at end for a quick verse as red smoke billows, but with Nicki gone, you’d be forgiven for losing interest. Likewise, we’ll let Young Thug off the hook for his absence in the “Low” video if he keeps putting out songs like Hannah Montana shout-out “Take a Picture,” although maybe he was just busy getting his hair done for another weird-as-hell Late Night With Jimmy Fallon cameo.
