It seems the sun will set on the iconic House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. Bloomberg reports the Los Angeles venue is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with a hotel/condominium project. Construction is planned to launch near the end of 2015, and the new developers, AECOM and Combined Properties Inc., plan to build a property comprising 149 hotel rooms, 40 condos, five rental units, and — yes — a show venue.
The House of Blues is a national venue chain operated by Live Nation, whose representative Ashton Spatz had hopeful words to share with Los Angeles Times ahead of the demolition:
“Our legendary House of Blues on Sunset Blvd — the flagship for 20 years of our popular venues around the country — will operate business as usual while we look for a new home. We have a terrific relationship with our landlord who has other plans to develop the property and we’re working together on a very smooth transition. We have two-plus years to find that perfect spot … with no interruption for music fans. Stay tuned.”
The 1,100-capacity space opened in 1994. See their upcoming calendar here.
