Bay Area turntablism great DJ Shadow has released The Liquid Amber EP, a three-song collection in conjunction with his just-announced Liquid Amber record label. The EP includes two original songs, and a Machinedrum remix of his 2002 track “Six Days.” New cuts “Ghost Town” and “Mob” reference trap and footwork, but don’t dwell in any particular genre, touching down in boom-bap, breakbeat, ambient, and deeply experimental zones as well.

“Both songs were written, programmed, and mixed by myself, and they represent the forward steps I feel I’ve taken as an engineer,” Shadow wrote on the EP’s Soundcloud page. “This single/EP serves as the opening salvo in what I hope is a long string of music, by myself and others, on my new imprint.”

Last week, Shadow participated in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” in which he talked vinyl, EDM, and more, listing Thom Yorke, Divine Styler, Little Dragon, and E-40 among the artists he’s most enjoyed collaborating with.

Stream the short collection of DJ Shadow tunes below, and check out the trip-hop OG’s Afrika Bambaataa vinyl-only tour starting on September 1 in collaboration with Cut Chemist. Just keep your fingers crossed that he doesn’t get kicked out of any venues mid-set this time around.
