Stuart Murdoch Follows Wes Anderson’s Lead in ‘God Help the Girl’ Trailer

Stuart Murdoch 'God Help the Girl' Trailer Emily Browning

Fans of Belle and Sebastian, indie-pop, and Wes Anderson’s best will surely be excited to see God Help the Girl, Stuart Murdoch’s direcorial debut based on a 2009 album of the same name. The basic gist is that it’s a concept album wherein Murdoch and the band back a series of female vocalists, with a plot centered around Eve, a young woman with some emotional issues who finds solace in songwriting.

The film version, which premiered at Sundance, stars Aussie actress Emily Browning as Eve, Olly Alexander as James, and Game of Thrones‘ Hannah Murray as Cass, with the latter two playing musicians who join up with Eve. The visuals owe a lot to the more twee work of Wes Anderson, which is understandable considering that the upcoming film is produced by Barry Mendel, who also worked on Anderson’s Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. There’s no set release date yet, but the trailer simply promises “September.” Enjoy it above.
