Nude Beach Bare Details of Upcoming Double Album ’77’

nude beach, 77

Nude Beach will return just as summer comes to an end. The garage-pop enthusiasts have announced that their sophomore album, 77, will arrive on October 21. On the way via Don Giovanni Records, the follow-up to 2012’s II will be a double LP that drummer Ryan Naideau describes thusly: “77 is a collection of stuff we’ve been working on for the past couple of years. We recorded the whole thing ourselves in a basement studio on Long Island and in bedrooms in Brooklyn and are psyched to share this record with everyone.”

The record’s hard-hitting lead single, “I Can’t Keep the Tears From Falling,” highlights the trio’s affection for pre-iPhone, pre-iAnything garage-rock sound. With bending guitars pulls and pummeling drum hits, the SPIN profile subjects recall the drunken times they spent (or wasted): “But as long as I can alter my mind,” singer-guitarist Chuck Betz murmurs, “I’ll keep drifting away.” The track contains clear classic-rock roots and hints of Tom Petty, some of the many influences the band draws from on the forthcoming album. “On 77 we brought in more instrumentation, complexity, and diversity in the songwriting and left it open-ended rather than sticking to one specific sound,” says bassist Jim Shelton. “It’s a document of the full spectrum of influences and ideas we’ve had over the last two years and I think is a more accurate picture of what we want to sound like as a band.” Enjoy the first taste of 77 by hitting the play button above.
