Stream Sia’s Lonesome Ballad, ‘Big Girls Cry’

Sia Stream Big Girls Cry

Frankie Valli was wrong. Fergie too. Big girls do cry. Or so says Sia on her new soaring ballad. And, no disrespect Mr. Valli, but we’re inclined to believe this modern songstress more than some old-time Jersey Boy. The woman behind Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts,” and about every other hit promoting female empowerment in the past five years, probably knows a bit more on the subject. When her impassioned voice carries us through the drama of a tough girl breaking down — meandering through minimal production that builds for an anthemic chorus — we’re right there along with her, shedding tears in the same hotel rooms and airplane seats. “It’s lonely at the top,” Sia sings. As we approach the July 8 release of her new album 1000 Forms of Fear — coinciding with a Lena Dunham-assisted performance on Seth Meyers and a recently teased Bey track that quickly disappeared from the Internet — here’s hoping it doesn’t have to stay that way for long.
