Watch Robin Thicke’s Tender, Totally Depressing ‘Get Her Back’ Video

Robin Thicke Get Her Back Paula Video

After a busy and boisterous 2013, controversial pop star Robin Thicke is back in a more humble incarnation. With a new record set on winning back his estranged wife Paula Patton, Thicke’s been presenting himself to the public in a better-coiffed, pretty wounded manner (see the melodramatic Billboard Music Awards performance that brought him too his knees) and he’s largely continuing in that vein with the video for that record’s first single “Get Her Back.”

The stark clip features extreme close-up shots of an emotionally (and physically) battered Thicke. He croons his silken R&B straight at the camera while wiping away a bloody nose, but even more distressing is the series of depressing texts that pops up in the midst of his crooning. “I can’t make love to you anymore,” reads one. “How could you do that to me?” questions another.

Prior to their separation in February, Patton and Thicke had been together for over 20 years, and according to a report last week in Us Magazine, “Robin does not want this divorce.” That’d explain the exhaustion and the damage on Thicke’s face in the video. You can watch it for yourself above.

Paula is out July 1 on Pharrell’s Star Trak label.
