OK Go’s Latest Video Is a Dizzying Blitz of Optical Illusion

Watch OK Go Writing's On The Wall

Started from a line of treadmills, now we’re here: OK Go has added to their anthology of over-the-top music videos with “The Writing’s on the Wall,” premiered at Rolling Stone. Aptly named, the song laments a relationship’s clearly impending doom, yet the video does everything but the obvious, perpetually tricking our eyes through a guided tour of a labyrinth of illusion. Playing with dimension and perception, the Los Angeles band takes full advantage of their chosen medium, enriching the art of point-of-view with the illustrative motion of the camera. Naturally, OK Go infuse this high-art aesthetic with their casual cheekiness, endearingly lip-syncing while lending their bodies to the installations. At the end, the large crew emerges to celebrate the successful take — the set took nearly three weeks to construct in a Brooklyn lot and the single long shot over 50 run-throughs to perfect.
