My Bloody Valentine to Return to Studio This Fall for ‘m b v’ Follow-Up

My Bloody Valentine New Songs New EP mbv interview

When Kevin Shields began promising the release of My Bloody Valentine’s third LP m b v, he also hinted at the existence of another EP lurking unfinished somewhere out there in his fractured headspace. Keeping in mind that everything that he does happens pretty slowly (m b v gestated for over 20 years), based on comments Shields made to NME yesterday, it seems like it could be a much shorter wait for new material from the Irish quartet than you might have initially assumed.

While at a show by London jangle-poppers the Proper Ornaments, Shields said that he’s “working on some new songs at the moment” that’ll fill out that previously promised EP. This new release has been in the planning stages since before m b v surfaced, but it’s only now that the band will finally start laying down the tracks. “We plan on going into the studio October or November time,” Shields said.

Few further details are available at the moment, so it could obviously be another 20 years before we hear whatever comes of those studio sessions, but even the news that Shields is being proactive in plotting this follow-up is promising in its own right.
