Fleet Foxes Get Dissed on ‘Orange Is the New Black’

Fleet Foxes Orange is the new black dis joke

Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and her team have a clear affinity for slightly off-the-radar tunes. Regina Spektor’s theme song, after all, was one of SPIN’s 30 Best Musical Moments From TV’s Latest Golden Age. As Sub Pop points out, that love goes even deeper with a playful little barb at the label’s own Fleet Foxes in the series’ new season.

According to The Atlantic, in the seventh episode of the second season (which just hit Netflix this weekend) an inmate registers her disgust when she requests an iPod full of Erasure and instead gets one with music from the Seattle folkies. Or in her own words: “Ugh. It’s full of Fleet Foxes and shit.” You have to wonder if Robin Pecknold has even had time to check out the new season yet, what with working toward a degree at Columbia and all.
