Arcade Fire and Kim Gordon Come Together in Trailer for Marcel Dzama Film

Arcade Fire Soundtrack Kim Gordon Film Video

Three members of Arcade Fire have written and recorded the score for a silent film starring Kim Gordon called Une Danse Des Bouffons (“The Jester’s Dance”) by Canadian artist Marcel Dzama. Dzama has collaborated with Arcade Fire in the past, designing album sleeves for the Montreal band, as well as others including Beck. As NME reports, it’ll be a “Dadaist love story” in which Gordon falls for Marcel Duchamp, who’s being held captive and has to blindly recite chess moves in order to escape.

The orch-pop band’s Will Butler, Jeremy Gara, and Tim Kingsbury created the four-song soundtrack with Dzama, and are releasing it on 7-inch vinyl that will only available with the new issue of McSweeney’s magazine The Believer, or at the New York art gallery David Zwirner, where the film is being shown September 9 to October 5 with a retrospective of Dzama’s work.

“Jeremy was in town mixing the new album [Reflektor], and I was just telling him about this film that I was doing,” Dzama told Huffington Post last September at the Toronto Film Festival. “He was really into the idea … We actually went into their studio and recorded a few songs there. That was really fun. And then Jeremy and Tim added guitar and drums and other sounds to it,” he said. “That was only a few songs that Will and I did. The better songs were just the three of them.”

Of course, Butler has some experience scoring film previously, having worked with Owen Pallett on the soundtrack for Spike Jonze’s Oscar-winning Her. Watch the trailer for Une Danse Des Bouffons above.
