Sonic Youth to Reissue ‘Daydream Nation,’ Early Catalog

Sonic Youth Daydream Nation Reissue

Though the exact future of the band is still in doubt following the dissolution of Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore’s marriage, there’s a little bit of imminent action for Sonic Youth in the form of a reissue series.

Starting June 10, with Daydream Nation and The Whitey Album, the band will reissue much of its catalog, largely centering on the pre-Geffen records days. Bad Moon Rising, EVOL, Sister, Confusion Is Sex are all due for new LP and CD editions, according to Sonic Youth’s website. The compilation Screaming Fields of Sonic Love will be reissued on DVD.

The band’s own label is set to handle the release of at least the first two installments of the series, with some distribution help from Revolver/Midheaven. Though Daydream Nation had a deluxe reissue as recently as 2010, this new edition will revert back to the original double LP.

The closest you’ll get to Sonic Youth as a live entity is still Gordon’s Body/Head or solo shows from Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. But starting June 10 it’ll be a whole lot easier to get your hands on the band’s early catalog, much of which is out of print at the moment.
