Lana Del Rey Sets Two Love Affairs Ablaze in ‘West Coast’ Video

Lana Del Rey, "West Coast," video

UPDATE: The finished version of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” video is above.

Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” video pours gasoline on an already-sultry new song. The clip shows the “Summertime Sadness” singer spinning in black-and-white on a beach with a young man, as seen in an earlier teaser. But then the next thing you know she’s smoking next to a more senior fellow in an automobile, like a visual echo of Old Hollywood. And when the clip turns color at the end, well … we’re not spoiling anything to tell you that more fire than a lit cigarette is involved.

Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach contributes to Del Rey’s upcoming album Ultraviolence, and he has also reworked “West Coast.” The song’s video comes after a handful of new Lana tracks, including “Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight,” “Behind Closed Doors,” and Maleficent‘s “Once Upon a Dream.” You can catch the purring vocalist behind 2012’s Born to Die on her North American tour.
