J-Pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and the jittery, enigmatic U.K. beatmaker Sophie have been covering similar conceptual ground for some time now. The latter’s Adderall-addled instrumentals seem a natural fit for Kyary’s innately buoyant and saccharine songwriting and now according to Dazed, the two are working on a track together. In an interview that accompanies that news, the two exhibit an ideological symmetry to match the sonic similarity.
The two discuss the origins of Kyary’s career-long fascination with mixing the kawaii with the absurd, as well as her thoughts on: the scariest sound in the world; the cutest sound in the world; and whether or not she thinks a car tire, a beach ball, a toy dolphin, an actual octopus, an eggplant, and a pair for fuzzy shoes are “cute.” (For the record her answers are Slipknot, a xylophone, no, yes, yes, no, yes, and yes, respectively).
Interestingly enough, Kyary also mentions that her favorite recent song is Avicii’s confounding Country-EDM track “Wake Me Up,” but count on the Sophie collab being far more tasteful than that.
