The Jack Black movie adaptation of creepy R.L. Stine kids’ book series Goosebumps has started shooting, but Coldplay trade in a different type of uncanny tale on their upcoming album Ghost Stories. Chris Martin recently acknowledged that the May 16 follow-up to 2011’s rhythm-heavy Mylo Xyloto is influenced by his very public “conscious uncoupling” from Gwyneth Paltrow, and the two stripped-down soliloquies the British band performed last night on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon are haunting in how they evoke human frailties, not supernatural spooks. Watch soft, introspective “Magic” — which Coldplay also performed on Saturday Night Live — above, and check out the rueful, crystalline “Always in My Head” — which previously debuted on BBC — below. Not sure we’d recommend watching Shallow Hal afterward, but, you know, synchronicity and all. (Also see: Coldplay Regale New York’s Beacon Theatre With New ‘Ghost Stories’)
