Former Girls guy Christopher Owens shared a new song on Twitter Thursday, writing, “Like I used to do on myspace. Check out my new joint today, I think it’s a song unlike anything I’ve ever worked on.” The previously unheard track is called “Stephen,” and it’s a rich, gospel-fed affair. “Just like an angel, he flew away / Gone from this earth, at 2 years of age,” Owens sings heartbreakingly, seemingly of a child he knew.
He goes on to sing of his own father leaving the Owens clan while he was young, and then references his own somewhat controversail past: “And so what, our family were Children of God / But all that we wanted was our father’s love.” In March we heard “It Comes Back to You,” which Owens said hails “from a new album I’ve made with dear friends.” That title appears again in the SoundCloud tags for this new one, so perhaps it’ll be the LP’s name.
