Charli XCX’s ‘Boom Clap’ Will Plant a Beat Machine in Your Heart

Charli XCX, Boom Clap

The name of Charli XCX’s follow-up to 2013’s True Romance remains unclear, but we do know the album will feature big names, like Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Vampire Weekend keyboardist/Broadway composer Rostam Batmanglij. In her interview with SPIN last December, the British pop star described the new LP as “very shouty and raw.” And, considering the fact that she grimaced upon hearing the term, it will most certainly not be “synthpop.” To be fair, her brand new song “Boom Clap,” from The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack, is pretty much pop-pop, at that’s not a bad thing. Warmed up by the singer’s soft-spoken lyrics, the treble blares high for the chorus, with Charli joyfully yelling the 808-friendly title: “Boom-clap, the sound in my heart.” Ours too.
