That Frank Ocean surprise album was a terribly mean-hearted April Fools’ Day hoax, but this new Lauryn Hill-sampling Drake song is legit. Proof that “Draft Day” is the genuine article: copious third-person lyrical selfies; timely sports metaphors; non-dis dis of a rhyming contemporary; and a none-too-sly in-song celebrity booty call. Regarding those last two, there’s the part where the Toronto MC references our favorite Chicago rapper: “If I left this shit to chance, I would’ve picked a name like Chance the Rapper / No offense ’cause I don’t know that nigga…” Oh, and in case everyone’s favorite American Hustler co-star was wondering, “Jennifer Lawrence, you can really get it.” Thanks to the handy download button, we can all get “Draft Day” below.
