Drake Visits Erykah Badu on Simmering ‘Days in the East’

Drake, "Days in the East," stream, Erykah Badu

As Kanye West finishes his new album, Drake keeps putting out new tracks every other day. The Nothing Was the Same MC shouted out Jennifer Lawrence and Chance the Rapper on Lauryn Hill-sampling “Draft Day,” which he shared earlier this week with no advance warning. The Toronto rapper-singer’s latest surprise offering, “Days in the East,” finds him sipping tea with Erykah Badu. Produced by October’s Very Own label roster members PARTYNEXTDOOR and co-produced by Drake’s regular sonic auteur Noah “40” Shebib, the slow, spacey track dramatically switches up its feel about halfway through. “Tryin’ to put the power in my own hands right now,” Drake brays at one point. He’s ruminating about a relationship, of course, but he could also be referring to his Soundcloud-borne music release strategy.
