tUnE-yArDs Teases ‘Nikki Nack’ LP With Deliriously Anarchic Megamix

tUnE-yArDs, 'Nikki Nack,' megamix, stream

tUnE-yArDs’ masterful 2011 album, w h o k i l l, was what you might’ve expected when Merrill Garbus’ personal-is-global indie-folk project went from shareware solo affair to an emboldened duo with access to professional recording equipment. Will newly announced follow-up Nikki Nack (note her latest copy editor-confounding typographic choice), due out in the United State on May 6 via 4AD, clean up further? Will it veer off someplace new? A two-and-a-half-minute “megamix” of tracks from the album, below, confirms Garbus’ brassy voice has only strengthened, and the overall kaleidoscopic effect conjures up a disorienting campfire dance party, but it offers tantalizingly little in the way — yet! — of definitive conclusions. Listen below, revisit SPIN’s 2011 tUnE-yArDs feature, and scroll down for tour dates (and to help Garbus celebrate her birthday, today, via an amusing animation). Here’s Garbus, as if channeling Busta Rhymes: “Woo hah!”
