Watch the National Vow ‘This is the Last Time’ on ‘Fallon’

the national, jimmy fallon, this is the last time

Earlier this month, the National made their Saturday Night Live debut, serving as musical guest alongside host (and fellow SNL newbie) Lena Dunham. And last night (March 27), the dour’n’dapper quintet returned to the small screen on behalf of NBC, dropping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Backed by a screen projecting lava lamp-like visuals, the SPIN profile subjects performed “This is the Last Time,” a quiet deep cut from their sixth album, 2013’s sturdy Trouble Will Find Me.

In case you’re wondering why the National are promoting a record that’s nearly a year old, here’s the reason: Mistaken for Strangers, the documentary directed by frontman Matt Berninger’s brother, Tom, opens in theaters and hits iTunes today, March 28. The film focuses on the relationship between the Berninger bros, and follows the National’s tireless tour in support of 2010’s outstanding High Violet.
