Watch Prince Debut ‘FUNKNROLL’ on ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’

Prince FUNKNROLL Premiere Arsenio Video

Prince put Arsenio Hall Show fans on notice last week by sending a female doppleganger to the program with the sole intention of revealing that the Purple One himself would be the sole guest on tonight’s episode. Apparently the show is so chock full of Minneapolitan goodness that producers felt they could post video of his majesty performing the new song “FUNKNROLL” before tonight’s airing. Backed by what the host called “an astral-traveling explosion of awesome” — meaning the man’s 3rdEyeGirl band — Prince appeared from behind a purple curtain and said to everybody, “Let’s Funk!”

This marks the first time he’s performed the Plectrum Electrum track with express written consent to reproduce it on television and the Web, though he did also play it at a secret London show last month. According to Consequence of Sound, he also stuck around to perform 1985 composition “Mutiny” (covered by protege act the Family) and the 1985 B-side “She’s Always in My Hair.” Speaking of that, Prince hates it when you touch his locks, as he reveals in the fan Q&A clip you can watch below. UPDATE: There’s now more video from the show, and did you notice Prince said he actually cooks omelettes — not pancakes
