Hear Moses Sumney’s Ghostly, Gorgeous ‘Man on the Moon’

Moses Sumney 'Man on the Moon' Stream

We first heard the striking music of Moses Sumney last July, when the theretofore Los Angeles secret was caught looping his own voice into a soul-folk orchestra’s worth of sound. Now we get a more dulcet taste in the form of “Man on the Moon,” the first recorded studio track released by the rising talent (who’s been noticed by Solange). The ghostly yet warm song hails from the April 7 release, Mid City Island EP, which, in Sumney’s words, is “a lo-fi experimental concept project, made in my bedroom, straight to cassette tape on an ’80s 4-track recorder.” Though quieter, the results are no less stunning — be sure to stick around for the final note. Mo hits the road with Local Natives in April, and wraps up a residency at L.A.’s Bootleg Theater Monday night, March 31.
