Watch Sam Smith Get the Taylor Swift Bump Live in London

Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, "Money on My Mind," live, London

Sam Smith, meet middle America. Taylor Swift brought the silky-voiced U.K. singer onstage during a February 2 concert at London’s O2 Arena, and now Stereogum points to fan footage of the moment. The Red star can be seen gushing about the rising singer and even prepping him for stateside conquest, telling the crowd how songs she discovered in Britain often turn up as U.S. hits six months later. The two then perform a spirited version of Smith’s success-shrugging single “Money on My Mind,” which comes out February 16 via Capitol.

Smith recently joined Disclosure on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to perform his guest vocal on Settle single “Latch,” and he also appeared alongside the dance-pop duo — and Chic’s Nile Rodgers — on last November’s superb “Together.” The “Safe With Me” man has North American dates booked and a debut album planned for the spring, and you don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist to note Capitol is under the same corporate parent that distributes Swift’s music. But the two sing about doing it “for the love,” and when you see their grins, you’ll forget someone ever made up the word “synergy.”

In other transatlantic coups, Miley Cyrus covered Smith-approved U.K. rock overlords Arctic Monkeys’ “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High,” a song that has also been covered by Queens of the Stone Age, and — hold the phone, it’s Kevin Bacon.
