Pickathon Festival Announces 2014 Dates

pickathon, pickathon 2014

Pickathon festival returns this year bearing food and drink from a slew of popular Portland-based breweries and eateries, free water, and no plastic. (Feel free to BYOKK: Bring Your Own Klean Kanteen.) The annual showcase will once again take place at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, Oregon, just slightly outside of Portland. This summer, the festival runs from August 1 through 3. Expect several lineup announcements in the weeks to come.

This time last year, Pickathon’s founder and seasoned bluegrass musician, Zale Schoenborn, spoke to SPIN’s David Bevan. “We are coming in, as a national festival, at one fourth the density of Sasquatch, a fifth of what you might experience at Coachella,” he said. “We do that on purpose to create space and the sense that you can be very close and intimate.”

To see just how close and intimate Pickathon can get, check out the footage above of SPIN cover star Ty Segall performing his Sleeper stunner, “The Man Man,” on the Woods Stage last summer. This isn’t the official music video where armed monsters take moonlit cruises through a residential area and kill the tempestuous prince of fuzz. No, this video features Segall and his band delivering a wild performance that begins calm and acoustic, and ends with Segall and his mop of dirty blond hair killing it on a drum kit.
