Kacey Musgraves Soars With Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ in ‘Austin City Limits’ Outtake

kacey musgraves, austin city limits, step off

After featuring performances by Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, and Jim James, PBS concert series Austin City Limits will end its 39th season on Saturday, February 8. Country darling Kacey Musgraves will close out the show’s recent run of episodes, topping a bill that features singer-songwriter Dale Watson. To tease the broadcast, producers have shared a web-exclusive outtake that catches Kacey singing “Step Off,” a pro-positivity tune from her Grammy-winning Same Trailer, Different Park, one of SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2013. About a minute into the clip, though, Musgraves’ backing band pivots to a reggae-inflected arrangement that leads to a cover of Bob Marley’s classic “Three Little Birds.”

Watch the video above, and look below for a backstage interview with Musgraves, in which the 25-year-old singer discusses her start in the music business and songwriting process. Check local listings to see when the ACL season finale airs.
