With Jimmy Fallon’s stint as the host of Late Night ending February 7, it’s no surprise that he’ll have a number of pals stopping by for random guest spots. Last week, Justin Vernon — fresh off a series of dates with Volcano Choir — hit up the show’s New York studio to sit in with house band the Roots, his longtime pals. About a third of the way into the show, they performed a reworking of the Bon Iver song “Woods” from 2009’s Blood Bank EP and, in a web-only clilp that surfaced today, took a spin on the hit single “Holocene” from 2011’s Bon Iver. Stretching to nearly five minutes, this rendition adds a mellow funk backing track, with Vernon and the group indulging in some extended yet subtle instrumental breaks. Check it out above.
