Shakira and Rihanna Cuddle in Cheesecake ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’ Video

Shakira, Rihanna, "Can't Remember to Forget You," video

Shakira, who broke through in a huge way with 2006’s “Hips Don’t Lie,” has been more famous in the United States in recent years for her work on The Voice than her music; her last English-language album, 2009’s She Wolf, has yet to be certified gold here. “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” the Colombian singer’s ska-flavored collaboration with Rihanna, has already cracked the top 40, and just like Justin Timberlake’s “Suit and Tie” a year ago, it has a Target commercial to make sure you can’t miss it. The song’s new video shows Shakira and Rihanna singing the song and snuggling up against each other suggestively. That’s pretty much it, with multiple extravagant variations and a brief rock-band moment. In a world where Beyoncé’s Beyoncé exists, though, both the cheesecake sexuality and the ad-based marketing feel somewhat off. (Speaking of Timberlake, whose Super Bowl gaffe is 10 years old now, why does he get to play such a different role in his own comeback video?)

In any event, Shakira’s new self-titled album is due out on March 25 via Sony. Big-box retailer ads don’t lie.
