Get to Know Pete Seeger in This Free Streaming PBS Documentary

Pete Seeger PBS Documentary American Masters Stream

Pete Seeger’s passing on Monday, January 27, was a sad affair, but the man accomplished an incredible amount in his 94 years on this earth, and if he can give us anything in death, it’s a chance to revisit that admirable life. We recently shared excerpts from the folk lion’s impressive testimony at the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1955. Now PBS is streaming their 2008 American Masters documentary, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song, online in full.

The 90-minute movie (watch it above) was the first authorized filmic biography of the artist, and paints a portrait of someone who “deeply believed in the power of song [and was] convinced that individuals can make a difference” despite being frequently misunderstood (and occasionally blacklisted) by his contemporaries. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines, Tom Paxton, Arlo Guthrie, and Seeger himself contribute to director Jim Brown’s film.

The Power of Song will also be broadcast on PBS Thursday, January 30, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Check your local listing.
