The “People” have spoken and they’ve made one thing clear: They love Justin Timberlake. The 32-year-old multi-threat cleaned up at the 40th People’s Choice Awards on January 8, collecting a total of three trophies, more than any other musician nominated. Voters crowned JT their Favorite Male Artist, Favorite R&B Artist, and christened his mega-selling The 20/20 Experience as their Favorite Album. (For what it’s worth, Timberlake’s third LP ranked at No. 32 on SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2013 list.)

Katy Perry was another big winner at the annual ceremony, which was held live at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The Prism princess picked up two awards, Favorite Song and Favorite Music Video, both for her inspirational chart-topper “Roar.”

Favorite Female Artist went to Demi Lovato (her Lovatics won Favorite Music Fan Following), Ariana Grande earned the Favorite Breakout Artist award, and Britney Spears collected the statuette for Favorite Pop Artist. In the genre-specific competitions: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis somehow walked away with the Favorite Hip-Hop Artist trophy, Fall Out Boy nabbed Favorite Alternative Band, One Direction were named Favorite Band, Tim McGraw was declared Favorite Country Music Icon, and Taylor Swift continued to Bogart the Favorite Country Artist, winning that race for the fourth year in a row.

On a more serious note, Jennifer Hudson was given the Favorite Humanitarian Award, in recognition of her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, an organization she started with her sister Julia to honor the memory of Julia’s son, Julian D. King, who was murdered at the age of seven in 2008. Hudson accepted the award with her sister and gave an understandably emotional acceptance speech.
