Queen Latifah Fuels Hopes for OutKast Album

OutKast, Andre 3000, Big Boi, Queen Latifah, new album, Howard Stern

OutKast fans are in a vulnerable spot right now. The rumors about André 3000 and Big Boi reuniting have so far proven to be true, and then some. It looked like the legendary Atlanta hip-hop duo would regroup for Coachella, then festival organizers confirmed OutKast would regroup for Coachella. They’re also headlining Governors Ball 2014. In fact, they’ve said they’ll play “over 40 festivals,” which must be a new category of fests for a certain embarrassing age group.

The latest morsel raising OutKast lovers’ hopes comes from Queen Latifah, who told Howard Stern, “They’re chilling… They’re doing movies… And they’re about to work on a new album” (scroll to the one-hour, 20-minute mark here, via Consequence of Sound). Latifah’s Flavor Unit Management used to manage the duo, though she noted to Stern that she doesn’t manage them anymore, and her interviewer quickly moved on to questions about drugs and breast size.

It wasn’t clear from Latifah’s remarks if she was aware of OutKast’s upcoming live reunion. She has since appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and her host there didn’t follow up about OutKast — or drugs, or breast size, if you can believe that.

Three Stacks and Big Boi last appeared together on a track about a year ago, with a remix of Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter.” André quickly made clear to SPIN the track didn’t constitute an OutKast reunion.

And although OutKast’s live reunion is now legit, when it comes to a new OutKast album, we haven’t come all that much farther than when Dre addressed such talk in late 2012: “I hear it every day,” he told us. “I go to the grocery store and people are like ‘Hey, where’s that new album?’ It’s great that people care, but I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe I’ll do an album and maybe not. Some days I feel like it and some days I don’t.”

Still, the other rumors have come true — what kind of day will this one be?
