The onward march of the Wedidit gang continues as Los Angeles’ Shlohmo lends his production prowess to the latest offering from R&B up-and-comer BANKS. On “Brain,” the former’s trademark mix of damaged soul and purple-fied trap lays a strong foundation for the latter’s powerhouse vocals, which remain pop-strong even through intensely vulnerable moments. It’s a worthy follow-up to BANKS’ September London EP (see “This Is What It Feels Like”) that bodes well for both her upcoming tour, and Shlohmo’s in-progress album with singer Jeremih — one of SPIN’s 50 Albums You’ve Gotta Hear in 2014.
