Well, Prince already has his next Fourth of July planned out. The Purple One will headline next year’s Essence Music Festival, which runs from July 3 through 6 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The upcoming gig will mark Prince’s first appearance at the Essence Fest since 2004, when the showcase turned 10. Now, organizers are putting together the 20th annual Essence Festival and they’ve got the “Breakfast Can Wait” mastermind booked for a slot.
According to the announcement, Prince’s performance will help benefit the Rebuild the Dream Innovation Fund to “champion awareness and foster education for disadvantaged youth to learn the language of computer coding and programming.” Details on the rest of Essence’s 2014 lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks.
At the moment, the July concert is Prince’s only show confirmed for next year — barring, you know, any kind of last minute pajama parties. The Purple Rain-maker does plan to close 2013 out, though, with a trio of performances at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. Head to Ticketmaster for more details on Prince’s December 27, 28, and 29 engagements.
