Hear Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel Cover the Velvet Underground’s ‘I Heard Her Call My Name’

mr. elevator & the brain hotel, the velvet underground, white light/white heat

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Velvet Underground’s White Light/White Heat, Burger Records has assembled its own version of the avant-garde classic, featuring covers of the LP’s six tracks. The Velvet Underground — White Light/White Heat Tribute Album will only be available on cassette on December 10, but SPIN is premiering every single song on the homage, one day at a time. We’ve already shared Natural Child’s cover of the title track, the Memories’ version of “The Gift,” Mozes and the Firstborn’s take on “Lady Godiva’s Operation,” and Curtis Harding’s rendition of “Here She Comes Now.” And now it’s time to dive into “I Heard Her Call My Name,” as done by Los Angeles psych outfit Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel. Listen to their sprawling, stomping tribute below, and scroll further for SPIN’s exclusive coverage on the late Lou Reed.
